Welcome!
Michigan Italian Greyhound Rescue is a service provided for Italian Greyhounds that have been abandoned at animal shelters, taken from abusive homes, or surrendered to Rescue due to the death or divorce of the former owner. Occasionally, Italian Greyhounds are turned over to Rescue because the owner can no longer keep the IG and the dog was acquired from a source to which it can not be returned.
Italian Greyhound Rescue members foster these IG orphans in their homes, where their health and temperament are evaluated, so that they can be placed in a home suitable to both the IG and new owners. Before being placed all dogs are taken for a veterinary check-up where vaccinations are updated, the animal is neutered or spayed, any serious medical conditions are treated, and if necessary, their teeth are cleaned. Each Italian Greyhound can potentially cost Rescue hundreds, sometimes thousands of dollars to rehabilitate. All members of Italian Greyhound Rescue, from the board of directors to your local representatives, are strictly volunteers, and do not receive any compensation for their services.
Please be aware that effective July 16, 2010 IGCA's fee structure for rescue has changed. Due to increasing vet bills and decreased donations we have to rely on the dog adoption donations to offset the costs of rescue. Dogs under 6 months will be $350, 7mo to 2yrs $325, 3yrs to 8yrs $300, over 8yrs $275.
